Stop From Becoming Bridezilla

Hamilton Wedding DatesYour wedding day is a very special and intensely personal day that you plan and organize with the help of those you love. You want everything to be perfect and to go off without a hitch, but when you feel like you’re losing control, or the cost of the caterer and venue are starting to blow your budget then you might begin to become sensitive to bad news, or question your choices.

So if you’re experiencing any of these feelings, don’t despair and turn into a bridal mess, instead keep your whits about you and remember that nothing is written in stone and all those companies you hired have to make you happy, not the other way around. So here’s your bridal therapy, first take a deep breathe and now continue reading these tips.

Problems with the Wedding Dress

If you’ve gained weight or the seamstress has had an accident with your dress, don’t despair, all is not lost. Before you go running off the deep end listen to what the seamstress has to say. Maybe shes got a fix for the problem at hand.

Here’s where you go into negotiation mode. Find out how much the seamstress wants to make the changes and then tell her what your budget is and do not move from that amount. If it’s her fault, you shouldn’t have to pay full price for a mistake she made. Insist that the amount is all that you have to spend, they should understand and try to accommodate you, because you’re going to tell everyone you know what happened.

Should you have gained a pound or two, making your dress a tight fit, your seamstress will suggest some ways of addressing the final fit. Don’t start some crazy diet that could backfire, instead work with your seamstress to make the best of a bad situation. In any case always be upfront about the amount of money you have to deal with the situation and don’t move from that amount, even if they’re telling you to borrow money from somewhere, don’t do it.

Problems with the Caterer

If your caterer tells you there is a problem with the menu, or that something you wanted is now going to cost more money, get out your contract and go over it with a fine tooth comb. Of course you should never have signed any type of agreement without going over it in great detail first. But should you find yourself in this situation, always refer back to your signed agreement.

Find out what the caterer can do and what they can’t. If they are stepping outside of what the contract says, then use this to stop them from charging you more money. If what they’re saying is within the contract, then here’s where you need negotiation skills. Hear them out and then tell them what your stance is. If you can meet in the middle that would be best. you don’t want to alienate your caterer, you still need them to want to work for your wedding.

Just make sure that what they’re asking for isn’t unreasonable, and if everything seems on the level, they should try to meet you in the middle.

Relax and Breathe

Make sure you take time for yourself leading up to your wedding. whether it’s spa days or sports, take time for yourself. If you’re doing something that makes you feel good, you’re less likely to go off snapping. Whatever you need to get into that space of total relaxation, do it. You’ll thank yourself later.
